Huzzah!
Hi Dylan,
I was at Comic Con this year and finally found Hicksville at the D&Q booth (Amazon couldn't seem to get it to me). It had been recommended to me at least a year or more ago, and now I know why. Your book simply amazed me. I've never read a graphic novel quite so intelligent about comics (both in the writing and the drawing). You are an amazing artist (in the true sense of the word), and I will be waiting expectantly for Atlas.
Thank You.
Andrew (a rabid fan)
Thanks, Andrew! I'm blushing...
The reason it was hard to get Hicksville from Amazon is probably that the current print run has almost run out, although D&Q seem to still have copies that they use to fill mail orders and sell at cons etc. It's due to reprint (with a new cover) soon (I'll announce the date here when I have one).
yay!
Hey Dylan
Just read an interview with you on the comiccon website from ages ago(http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=36&t=000831).
Didnt know you had had such a hard time with writers block over Atlas. I just figured you were too busy with other work or summat.
Anyway, glad to know you broke through it and very surprised you could doubt your drawing was ever less than great. Your line work is cool.
I love your clouds in Atlas and your drawings of the sea in Hicksville. And I especially used to love your drawings and stories set in nineties Auckland in Pickle too, like the Just Deserts Cafe, or DKD's (a lot of my own adolescent dramas played out in these places). And thats just the backgrounds!
I haven't got my hands on Atlas two yet (only just found out its been published) but looking forward to it and number three. Any plans for Grace Pekapeka to reappear?
Keep it up!
Andrew
can't wait!
More, please!
