New Zealand Comics and Graphic Novels

New Zealand Comics and Graphic Novels is a 100-page directory of New Zealand cartoonists and comics creators. It was put together in 2012 to be distributed at the Frankfurt Book Fair and other industry events and includes profiles and contact details of 65 creators, along with a brief introductory essay on the history of New Zealand comics by Tim Bollinger.

The entire book is available for download.

New Zealand has an active and diverse comics scene and New Zealand comics creators have gained significant followings both locally and internationally. The first New Zealand graphic novel was published in 1982 and recent years have seen New Zealand graphic novels on bestseller lists and winning top book awards. In September 2012, the Treviso Comic Book Festival in Italy is hosting an exhibition of New Zealand comics art, and a number of New Zealand comics creators are attending the Frankfurt Book Fair as part of the Guest of Honour programme.

Note: New Zealand Comics and Graphic Novels is not a complete list of New Zealand cartoonists and comics creators; there are many more than could be included. You can find more information on the New Zealand scene here.

New Zealand Comics and Graphic Novels is not available for sale, but if you are interested in obtaining a physical copy for research or professional use, please enquire by email.
